What OYA Girls Has to Offer

Recreational Programs

 

Fast-Pitch Softball -– Orland Park Recreational Fast-Pitch Softball is played during the Spring Season and is our largest sport.  The Divisions range from Pre-K through High School.  Registration begins on or about February 1st.  This is a Recreational Program.  A Recreational player may not be a member of a Travel and/or Club Fast-Pitch Softball team and must play in the OYA Recreational Program.

Widget Softball (Pre-K & K) – This is an INSTRUCTIONAL DIVISION.  The focus is on teaching the players how to play the Sport.  There is no score and no Championship Game.  The first 3 weeks of Practices are a structured “SOFTBALL SKILLS CAMP” managed by the WIDGET COMMISSIONER.  It will be held indoors 3 times per week.  Instructors from the CHICAGO BANDITS Professional Fast-Pitch team will be assisting Volunteer Parent Coaches in teaching the “SOFTBALL SKILLS CAMP”.  The first week is held at the Orland Park Sportsplex.  The second and third weeks are held at the Loebe Center.  The fourth week will be supervised by the WIDGET Commissioner and the Volunteer Parent Coaches held outside at Veteran’s Park.  An Instructional Practice / Game schedule of 2 events per week will be provided for the months of May through mid-June.  The curriculum taught at the “SOFTBALL SKILLS CAMP” will be the focus throughout the Season.

Basketball – Orland Park Recreational Basketball is played during the Winter Season.  The Divisions range from 3rd Grade through High School.  Registration begins on or about October 1st.  This is a Recreational Program. There are no Try-outs.  A Recreational player may not be a member of a Travel and/or Club Fast-Pitch Softball team and must play in the OYA Recreational Program.

 

Volleyball is our fall sport for OYA.  Girls in third grade through high school can play in our program.  Sign ups occur in July or August.  Depending on the amount of girls that sign up, the teams are either assigned by grade level or combined.  With the exception of third grade, girls are placed on teams through a draft process.  The program starts with practices in September, games beginning in October and ending at the end of November.  We are averaging approximately 300 girls in this program each year.  This is the newest of the sports programs.  

 

Competitive / Recreational Programs

 

“Lightning” Tournament Fast-Pitch Softball – Orland Park Lightning is played during the Summer Tournament Season.  The Divisions are 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U.  Registration / Try-outs begin on or about June 1st.  This is a Competitive/ Recreational Tournament Program.  A Competitive / Recreational Tournament player may not be a member of a Travel and/or Club Fast-Pitch Softball team and must play in the OYA Recreational Program.

“Lightning” Tournament Basketball – Orland Park Lightning is played during the Winter Season.  The Divisions are based on school grades and are 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th.  Registration / Try-outs begin on or around November 1st.  This is a Competitive / Recreational Tournament Program.  A Competitive / Recreational Tournament player may not be a member of a Travel and/or Club Basketball team.  Players in grades 4th and 5th must play in the OYA Recreational Program and grades 6th, 7th, and 8th must have played in the OYA Recreational Program during the previous year’s season.
